Boom Town at The Bentway

This may have been one of our most intensive projects to date. We worked with The Bentway to bring Boom Town to life. As part of the ongoing Waterfront ReConnect project, a design contest was held with the aim to make the underside of the Gardiner a little more cheerful and vibrant. Office ISO’s winning design was ambitious, but the results are stunning.

Producing the chrome pattern on the pillars was especially challenging. Each of the approximately 160 panels was weeded by hand over the course of several weeks to achieve the mirrorlike gradient effect. The installation took many sunny days (and nights!) across the month of May 2023.

And of course, we can’t forget the Boom Buddies! These joyful creatures are actually boom lifts – the very same kind our installers used to work on the gradient pillars. We gave them some colourful reflective film wraps to show off year-round, while The Bentway plans to dress them up in costumes for holidays and other special events.
